A Stuttering Heart

This poem I wrote in honor of two of my close friends getting married this weekend. It was a wonder wedding and I am so happy for the both of them!!! Congrats to Katie Carboni and Greg Hunter.
Anyhow, here's the poem I dedicated to them:

A Stuttering Heart

My hand gravitates to yours,
so soft,
so kind.
My hair,
wet with sweat,
itches my brow,
but I dare not
touch it.
My breath
grows ragged,
a gravelly wind
that rustles the air
with every stammer.
My foot
taps unconsciously,
a strange tempo
accompanying my nerves.

And the moment
comes.

A deep voice
fills my lungs,
puffing pride and passion
into my breast,
readying me for the great unknown

With a single gasp,
I say those two words
that all the ears,
expect to hear,
including my own.
It’s reassuring to listen
to such a melody
slip from my lips.

An earth-shattering moment
passes.

Our grasp tightens
with the knowledge that
we hold a love,
unbreakable,
betwixt us,
reassured of a link
everlasting.
